Ronald Portier

After graduating as a historian at the University of Amsterdam, Ronald retrained as a programmer in 1988. He soon discovered a talent for solving complex problems in both programming and systems management. Ronald worked with large ERP systems, critical for the functioning of factories, banks and government organisations.

In 1999 it was time for something new, and together with a business partner he started dSolutions, implementing groupware, Lotus Domino, running on the large IBM AS/400 systems. This provided a solid experience in internet protocols and in providing secure end-user solutions for mail, calendering, collaboration and document management.

Attracted to the principles of Free Software, he became a Linux expert and started together with others Therp, one of the first Odoo implementers in the Netherlands. With Odoo ERP, an organisation has a central repository of all its assets, customers, accounting data, production processes, and whatever it needs. All with a user friendly browser or mobile frontend, and in the background running on a worldclass database.

Since 1 July 2026 he operates independently through Open Eye Development, helping organisations take control of their digital infrastructure.

Despite being deeply technical, the needs of customers are always a central concern for Ronald. He avoids overtly complex solutions and focuses on maintainability.
